Hilma af Klint (18621944) was a pioneer of art that turned away from the visible, physical world to spiritual reality. Together with Anna Cassel, Cornelia Cederberg, Sigrid Hedman and Mathilda Nilsson she established The Five a group exploring spiritual realms through meditation and séances. In trancelike states, they believed they could communicate with mystic beings with names such as Amaliel, Ananda, and Gregor transcribing their messages via automatic writings and drawings. This blank paged sketchbook is a copy of one of their books, and contains four drawings they made. The group produced 15 sketchbooks in total, which are reproduced in Hilma af Klint Catalogue Raisonné Spiritualistic Drawings (1895-1910), published by Bokförlaget Stolpe, 2020.
